iZUP is a mobile application developed by Illume Software that helps you focus on the road and avoid distractions caused by your mobile phone. This innovative product holds text messages, e-mails and calls while you’re driving, yet always allows unlimited access to 911 and a list of authorized phone numbers. Built upon patent-pending technology, iZUP delivers unrivaled reliability and ease of use.
iZUP works by using a cellphone's GPS signal, in concert with our server, to calculate your speed and other critical conditions to determine if you’re driving. Once the vehicle reaches a pre-set speed, the software intervenes and incoming calls and text messages are managed intelligently until you can read and respond to them safely. During this time, iZUP also prevents outgoing communication and applications. iZUP always allows emergency calls to 911 and communication between authorized numbers (e.g. parent or employer).
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a U.S. space-based global navigation satellite system. It provides reliable positioning, navigation, and timing services to worldwide users on a continuous basis in all weather, day and night, anywhere on or near the Earth. GPS is made up of between 24 and 32 satellites orbiting the Earth, four control and monitoring stations on Earth, and the GPS receivers owned by users. GPS satellites broadcast signals from space that are used by GPS receivers to provide three-dimensional location (latitude, longitude, and altitude) plus the time. GPS has become a widely used aid to navigation worldwide, and a useful tool for map-making, land surveying, commerce, scientific uses, tracking and surveillance, and hobbies such as geocaching and waymarking. Inconsistencies of atmospheric conditions affect the speed of the GPS signals as they pass through the Earth's atmosphere (source: wikipedia).
Once iZUP is installed and activated, the iZUP screen will display on the handset when exceeding a pre-set speed. This screen will prevent all other operations except for 911, authorized numbers, and authorized applications.
Since iZUP depends on GPS (see above), it is possible that it can take upwards of several minutes for a GPS fix to occur from a cold start of the phone. Different phone models respond differently. GPS might be affected in denser urban areas, suburban areas with heavy tree cover, and in some atmospheric conditions. Illume Software continues to work on finding new ways to refine and improve the product and updates will be made available during your subscription period that may address GPS performance issue.

Phone calls to and from authorized phone numbers always work – even when iZUP is holding calls and text messages from everyone else. The authorized numbers are set by the iZUP account holder and are easily changeable by logging into your account directly from your device or our website.
An authorized application is set by the account manager or parent and is recommended to be a navigational app.
"Tamper Alert" is a mechanism that will send a report to the account holder (who used their email address/password to sign up for the iZUP service) if the application is having problems. The "report" will come in the form of an email. Also, your account management page will show a "Tamper Alert" in red where it normally states if iZUP is "Blocked" or "Unblocked".
iZUP has a system in place to figure out if the car is truly stopped or just at a traffic light. This also accounts for heavy traffic, stop lights, and stop signs.
Passengers on mobile phones can be just as distracting. However, if you must, you or the authorized account holder (e.g. your parent or system administrator) may log into the iZUP website here or directly from the device to suspend iZUP, temporarily turning the service to off. The service can be turned back on in the same place by pressing the “Activate” button.
No. The iZUP application safely holds messages sent to you until it is safe to access them.
iZUP does not interfere with 911, which can be dialed at any time.In fact, a notice is sent to the account holder with a map indicating the location of the emergency. Details provided include time, latitude and longitude.
A tamper alert is sent to the account holder if a user on the account attempts to disable iZUP.
